Pregnant breastfeeding mastitis is a term that refers to all pregnancy, breastfeeding and mastitis. The three main concerns of breastfeeding women are if they can get pregnant while breastfeeding, if they should stop breastfeeding after they have found out they are pregnant and how it is mastitis related to breastfeeding and pregnancy. This article has the aim to answer to all these questions.
Contrary to common belief, breastfeeding does not protect 100% against further pregnancies. Women who are breastfeeding can get pregnant if no other contraceptive method is used. Moreover, many women remain pregnant while breastfeeding. The next concern is if breastfeeding while pregnant is healthy and safe for all three members of the family involved: newborn, mother and the baby to be born. The opinions are however divided. For example, La Leche League International supports breastfeeding during pregnancy but doctors or other people may consider that continuing breastfeeding while pregnant is not safe not healthy. Their main arguments are that breastfeeding usually results in uterine contractions and increases the risks of miscarriages. However, those who are pro breastfeeding during pregnancy respond that uterine contractions are common during pregnancy as a result of exercise or orgasms and those women who choose not to wean their toddlers after getting pregnant again do not have an increased risk of miscarriage unless they were already at risk for it.
Many women however choose to keep breastfeeding their newborns because this is in the baby’s best interest. They may feel more tired and may require extra rest, as well as an adequate nutrition is required, that will support the nutritional needs for both babies, born and unborn. It is recommended that in these cases a nutritionist is consulted to make sure the mother eats a balanced and healthy diet for her own health as well.
Many women who breastfeeding during pregnancy complain of breast tenderness pregnancy related. This is common and can be attenuated by changing the position in which the baby latches on. Breast tenderness pregnancy related can cause mild discomfort with can be alleviated with a good and comfortable bra. The pregnancy breast changes do not affect breastfeeding or the toddler. This means that women do not have to wean their born baby when finding out they are pregnant.
Commonly, the supply of breast milk may decrease by the second semester of pregnancy and then the mother should supplement the food that the baby gets, especially when it is not enough for proper nourishment. Also, the pregnancy breast changes may cause a different taste of the breast milk and some babies self wean because they do not like the taste anymore.
Mothers who decide to wean their baby due to pregnancy are recommended to do it gradually in order to minimize the effect of weaning on their infants.
